Dear Travell Families,
We’re very excited to announce that the Travell HSA is once again supporting the One School, One Book initiative. This year’s book is Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School and Other Scary Things by Lenore Look. Here is the Scholastic link to the book: Alvin Ho Scholastic
The program will begin on Monday, January 24, with distribution of books to the youngest child in each family and a special video shown in homerooms. On our One School, One Book website, we will have chapter discussion questions and fun activities. If you send photos of your family to Ms. DeNunzio or your classroom teacher, we’ll post those on the website, too! Finally, our website is the place you’ll be able to access chapter readings by special guests! As a school, we will read chapters each week, with a culminating activity in each grade on Friday, February 18.
A special thank you goes to our HSA and to our school media specialist, Ms. Mary DeNunzio, for putting together this amazing experience
Let’s get reading, Travell!
Please be reminded that tomorrow (Thursday, December 23) is a minimum day. Students will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m. No lunches will be served, but students should bring a snack.
Please also remember that any child exhibiting symptoms of illness should be kept home. We want everyone to be able to enjoy a safe, healthy holiday season!
Best,
Brian Ross

Dear Travell Families,
Preliminary International Expo planning is underway (participants should sign up at link below); however, we do not currently have enough volunteers to lead and coordinate the event.
If you are interested in serving on the Expo Committee - or even learning a bit more about the role - please be in touch with Christina Morbelli: [email protected]
If we are unable to fill the Expo Planning Committee, unfortunately, this cornerstone event will not be able to take place. We know how beloved this event is within our community and are grateful for volunteers' willingness to assist with the coordination and execution.
Thank you,

From the Health Office:
Vaccination status is an important data point for determining health and safety protocols for the district in collaboration with the local health department. Children ages 5-11 are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.
At this time, quarantine criteria differs for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to quarantine if they are identified as a close contact unless symptomatic.
Students are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after the second dose is given.
If you would like to voluntarily provide your child's COVID-19 vaccination card for contact tracing purposes, please email vaccination cards (once both doses are completed) to: [email protected]

Hello, Travell Families,
Here are a few important updates:
Outdoor Lunch
--With temperatures frequently in the 40-degree range, tomorrow (Thursday, November 18) will
be the final day of the outdoor lunch pilot. Beginning Friday, all students will eat in the Tiger’s
Den.
Parking Reminders (Full Guidelines Below)
--Please do not park on the school side of Bogert Ave. from 8:00-9:00 on school days. Follow the
signs for student drop-off.
--Only district personnel and those drivers with official handicapped credentials should use the
Bogert cutout before, during, or after school.
Spirit Fridays
--Remember to wear your Travell or Ridgewood gear or colors every Friday!
Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Brian Ross
TRAVELL SAFETY: DROP-OFF & PARKING
DROP-OFF
Please have your child seated on the curb side of the car, drop them off and continue towards
Meadowbrook. Teachers are posted at the door to make sure that every child that is dropped off
enters the building.
There are two drop-off areas: One on Bogert Avenue and one on Fairfield Avenue
On Bogert Avenue - drop-off is in front of the school, after the island. Do not drop off at the
island and do not block the driveway on either side of the island, as it must be accessible to
school vans. During school hours, Bogert is one-way.
On Fairfield - drop-off is at the cut-out on the school side leading to the playground/ball field
area. Fairfield is two-way at all times and parking is illegal on both sides of Fairfield north of
Downs. Refer to the student drop-off may on the next page.
PARKING
If you plan to park your car to escort your child into school, you must leave the drop-off area and
park beyond the school. Parked cars impede the flow of traffic and endanger the children.
Handicapped parking is available on both sides of the school for those with official credentials.

Updated for 9.29.21: Please see the corrected Start Strong dates below, as well as the new information regarding lunch and recess sign-out process.
Important Updates:
Start Strong Testing - Week of October 4-October 8 - Grades 4-5: RPS elementary schools will administer the New Jersey Department of Education’s Start Strong assessments. Start Strong is designed to provide instructional information to school staff members so that we can meet the needs of our students. Travell students in grades 4 and 5 will test in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics on Wednesday, October 6 and Thursday, October 7. Each session will be 60 minutes long. Once the state releases assessment data, the district will share that information with families.
Week of Respect: Week of October 4-October 8:
Highlights include:
- Guest speaker Kelsey Tainsh (grades 2-5), October 5
- Rooted in Respect activity (grades K-1)
- Spirit Week activities (everyone!):
--Monday: Wear Blue for National Stomp Out Bullying Day
--Tuesday: Respect for Self - Wear Pajamas or your comfiest clothes to show you can be comfortable being you
--Wednesday: Respect for Others - Wear Tye Dye/ Mix and Match to show respect for everyone's differences
--Thursday: Respect for Environment - Wear Green OR wear your favorite sports jersey or shirt to show respect for the environment we all share as a team
--Friday: Respect for School & Community - Wear Travell or Ridgewood Gear
Lunch/Recess Sign-Outs: Beginning Monday, October 4, students who sign out for lunch may
return for recess (or stay for recess first, then sign out). Students and parents should continue to report ONLY to the Bogert Ave. door for the sign-in and sign-out process.
Monday, October 11 - No school for students; professional development for teachers.
Important Reminders:
- Please drop off all lunches, drinks, snacks, etc. to the cooler outside the Bogert Ave. door by 10:00 each morning.
- Please remember to pack an extra mask in your child’s backpack.
- Remember that Bogert Avenue is a one-way street from 8:00 am-3:45 pm on school days.
- Please do not idle before school, after school, or when picking up/dropping off students for lunch.
- Every Friday is Spirit Day! Remind your child to wear Travell or Ridgewood colors!
Thank you!
Best,

Snack:
Classrooms are peanut and tree nut free. Please send in a healthy snack that does not contain these food items.
Using a dedicated "snack bag" is a great way to make sure your child knows which food is meant for snack time.
Lunch:
Any foods may be brought in to be eaten for lunch, including tree nut and peanut products.
Your child may be asked to move so he or she is not sitting directly next to a student with a food allergy.
